“Do not fast forward into something you’re not ready for or allow yourself to shrink back into what’s comfortable. Growth lives in the uneasiness, the in-between, the unfinished sentence. You are a season of becoming.”  Unknown

You are a season of becoming. I love this sentence, it feels so complete, yet paradoxically open. We are always growing and evolving, sometimes it’s more obvious than other times. I have been quiet this year and it has been a long time since I’ve sat down to write. So far 2019 has been a year of learning how to look after myself. Self care is a buzz word these days, something I preach to my clients, but something that I’ve always struggled to put into practice. It’s funny how life works, it seems to bring you exactly what you need. At the beginning of February I began my 6 month Yoga Teacher Training, something I have been wanting to do for years and finally the stars aligned and I found myself back with my very first yoga teacher.  We had to set our Sankalpa, which is an intention formed by the heart and mind in order to help you achieve a goal. Mine was “to Honour Myself” something I have struggled with in the past. Life was going to make sure I did just that. At the end of Feb, one month into the course I was knocked with a few health challenges, all the things my mind thought I should be doing just weren’t happening, I had to listen to my body, it wanted rest and nourishment. I had to learn the art of extreme self care. The yoga has stirred up a lot of inner resistance, it has made me face some big fears, it has helped me to feel more comfortable in my own skin.  And so these last few months have been about navigating transition, allowing myself to become more of who I really am and trying to be very gentle with myself in the process. Sometimes it feels like I should be “there” already (wherever there is?) and I often feel like I’ve got one foot in the new and one stuck in the old, hanging on for dear life. The other day when I really felt like I was getting no-where, a dear friend said to me “we’ve always got one foot in the new and one in the old, because we are always in transition” and this was just what I needed to hear. We are always growing, life is not constant, yes sometimes growth and transition are more prominent than other times but it is about taking one day at a time, trusting the process and not thinking too far into the future.

The above quote fits in so perfectly here,  “Do not fast forward into something you’re not ready for or allow yourself to shrink back into what’s comfortable.” We cannot rush the process, we have to give ourselves time to bloom, yet it is so easy to shrink back to what’s comfortable because that is where our minds feel safe. However, “Growth lives in the uneasiness, the in-between, the unfinished sentence. You are a season of becoming”.  Allow yourself to feel the uncomfortable emotions, only when you stop resisting the pain and uneasiness do you rise above it which allows you to open, to blossom, to shine bright and live the life you are meant to live.
